Graaff-Reinet is an important historical centre in South Africa and was on the line from Mossel Bay that connected with the main Port Elizabeth line at Rosmead. The section from Klipplaat to Rosmead on which Graaff-Reinet lies is now closed to rail traffic, and the station buildings in Graaff-Reinet is now used by the police. A small signalling installation of six levers, controlling main and loop signals at each end of the station, plus an outer home signal at the north end, existed here, and you can see the signalling area in the middle of this picture.

The signal post to the south of the station still exists and can be seen in this shot of the Karoo skyline.
