Groot-Brakrivier (Great Brak River) is one of two similarly named resorts near Mossel Bay, being 23kms from the port town. Befitting its name, Groot-Brakrivier had a larger station than Klein-Brakrivier, including semaphore signalling until around the early 80s. The station building still survives as a catering establishment, as with many in the Mossel Bay area, although the attractive gardens that the station was famed for are long gone. The station building can be seen in this picture taken by Dylan Knott, with the signalling area in front.

Point indicators are a reminder of the semaphore signals that used to be - the river that gave the place its name can also be seen.
