Heidelberg is on the Cape Town to Port Elizabeth "Garden Route" secondary main line, and is the station for a small agricultural town on the Worcester to Mossel Bay section of the line. Semaphore signalling was provided here, but with the decline in traffic on the line, and move to radio signalling, had been removed by 1991. The station building and signalling area still remain, as can been seen in this July 2007 picture by Dylan Knott.
