Kalbaskraal is on the long branch that leave the main Cape Town-Johannesburg line at Kraaifontein and continues for a distance of almost 500 kms to Bitterfontein. It was the junction for another branch to Vredenburg and Saldanha. There was full semaphore signalling with a frame of 28 levers which was removed in the mid-90s when this section was converted to radio operation. In these 2011 shots, you can still see where the former signalling area, now bricked off, and where the signal wires entered under the platform, to the right of the station building.

Semaphore signalling has gone, but there is a new points indicator at the Saldanha junction, seen here, which is in the form of a small semaphore signal.
