There are two locations on the suburban line to Simonstown where gate boxes still operate level crossing mechanically, even although the line has been under Centralised Traffic Control since 1997. The first is Kenilworth, some 11 kms from Cape Town. The box here is fairly modern, however, replacing an older one some time during the 1980s.
