The last section of the main line between Cape Town and Johannesburg to be controlled by mechanical signal boxes is the double track section between Bellville and Wellington, where five mechanical boxes remain at the time of writing (April 2005). One of these is Klapmuts, about 50 kms from Cape Town, where this signal box with a 36 lever frame controls the station area. There is no semaphore signalling however, color lights have been here for a while. The layout consists of a fast passing loop running between the suburban up and down lines which are adjacent to the two platforms that see a fairly regular suburban service.
