Magaliesburg lies 63 kms west of Johannesburg on the unelectrified main line from Johannesburg to Mafikeng, and is the junction for the now-closed branch line to Hercules station in Pretoria (Dam Rail are trying to revive this line). This area in front of the station building was used to signal the station area and junction, and the lever frame remains there as of my visit in May 2005. However, the semaphore signalling has now gone as part of the general move to radio train control on lightly trafficed lines that took place in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Looking towards the junction to Hercules in the Johannesburg direction. Signal posts remain, but no signals. However, you may be able to make out the point indicators that have replaced the semaphore signals.
