NOUPOORT SOUTH

Noupoort was an important junction where the main line from Port Elizabeth split into lines to Springfontein and Bloemfontein, and to De Aar and Kimberley. The junction remains, but the town and station are very much faded, and the place is now better known for a controversial drug rehabilation clinic. Signalling at the station was controlled by two boxes, Noupoort South and North, and while semaphores probably disappeared by the 1970s, the South box is still extant in this 2010 shot.
