Simonstown is the headquarters of the South African Navy, 36 kms south of Cape Town. It is also the end of the suburban line from Cape Town, and was the last station retaining semaphore signalling. This signal box, containing 24 levers, controlled the entrance into the three platforms of this terminus station, plus some sidings. However, color lights and centralised control from Windermere (the Cape Town signalling centre) ended the use of this box in 1997. The windowns of the box were covered with newspapers when I visited, but I am told that the lever frame remains as of July 2005.
The end of the line. One assumes this color light will always show red!
