Yes, there is snow in South Africa. This location is Besters, on the Kroonstad-Ladysmith main-line, on the border of the provinces of Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Free State and the bottom of the scenic pass that this line makes down the Drakensberg mountains. The line has been controlled by CTC from Danskraal, near Ladysmith, since the 1980s. However, in this 2001 shot by Greg Hart, you can clearly see the front of the station building from which the previous mechanical signalling was controlled. The snow was so heavy that the line was closed for a few days.
